Layers are important as they allow:
- A detailed composition
- Editing of text, etc without affecting the original image or other parts of the work in progress
- More control over the multiple images
- The original image to be preserved
- Specific selections to be made, such as the arms or legs
- Changed to the opacity on selected areas
- Blending of multiple images or selections.
